I’ve found that my mind, on any given occasion, will feed my insecurities. It will fuel my fears, or make me parlay with myself about gloomy prophecies and trends.

It scrambles my day with thoughts like: “There are going to be water wars.” Or, “Big corporations will genetically modify nature itself.”

Have you ever had your mind speak to you obsessively about the very things you do not want to focus on? It might pester you with less-than-favorable thoughts about the state of a relationship, or your weight, or your lack of success in certain areas of your life.

Isn’t it frustrating to have such commentary peppered into your day?

I find myself wanting to say to my mind: “I’ve had it. You’re fired.”

Unfortunately, we can’t just force our brains to seek greener pastures. But we can teach them to view the world through a different lens – a lens of LIGHT.

Here are 3 ways to enlighten your mind. Give them a go!

1. Imagine if you could just allow your mind to look at light. Not light in the traditional sense, mind you, like light bulbs or sunlight. But rather refracted, clear light that unveils the full spectrum of color.

You’ve seen light broken up through prisms, revealing the gorgeous rainbow hues the naked eye doesn’t always get to see. Now, imagine drinking in those brilliant shades with your gaze. Allow your mind to play with these colors.

2. Play this game: imagine seeing people as expressions of light. As you look at someone, ask yourself: “Which colors would really express the essence of this person in this moment?”

Is it one color, or many different tones?

3. Ask your mind what color it wants to “lighten up”. Perceive that color, and imagine drinking it directly from the universe, into your mind.

Doing this exercise will shift your mind’s settings from the gossipy, fear-based chatter into illuminated, multidimensional possibilities. It will naturally unburden you, and make you lighter, and more lighthearted in your daily life.

We are all drawn to light, whether it brings the end of night, or some silver lining on a cloud. Let’s use it consciously and shift up!

Now it’s your turn.

How do you handle your mind’s negative scripts? Have you ever tried working with colors and light? Share your story with me in the comments below – I always love hearing about your experiences and strategies.

Now, for a little light relief, here’s brother Elvis singing A Pocketful of Rainbows. It doesn’t get better than that.
